The Kalmanovitz Initiative is excited to welcome Joanna Foote and Sophia Sepp as our Day Laborer Exchange coordinators in 2012-2013!
Joanna Foote
Joanna Foote (SFS ’13) is studying International Culture and Politics with a focus on migration. She worked at a shelter for deported migrants on the US/Mexico border in fall 2011 and a shelter for Central Americans in southern Mexico in summer 2012. She is thankful that through the Day Laborer Exchange and other work with immigrants in DC she can integrate her time in the shelters with her day-to-day life at Georgetown. She also loves introducing Georgetown students to the complexity of labor and migration issues but even more so to members of the DC community who we might not normally notice.
Sophia Sepp
Sophia Sepp (SFS ’15) is studying International Politics with a concentration in International Security. She has worked with the migrant community in various capacities, at a shelter for deported migrants on the US/Mexico Border and through the Alternative Spring Break’s Border Awareness Experience. She has greatly enjoyed being able to continue to engage the migrant community through the Day Laborer Exchange and to learn about the issues and complexities affecting the local DC community.
