Organizing Faith Communities

The Kalmanovitz Initiative benefits from the rich history of inter religious dialogue at Georgetown University and in Washington, DC. Since it’s founding, KI has worked been a key figure in promoting interfaith solidarity with working people and the labor movement. Formerly, executive director, Joe McCartin served on the board of Interfaith Worker Justice and KI is currently working to build on the legacy of IWJ to reform a network of faith-based organizations and leaders to support labor justice and the common good.

In addition to its interfaith work, KI works to promote worker justice in the Catholic and Jesuit communities.

KI hosts the Executive Director of the Catholic Labor Network (CLN) as a fellow. CLN is an association of Catholic union activists – clergy, religious and lay – committed to Catholic Social Teaching on labor and work, and to fostering collaboration between Church and labor organizations to advance worker justice.
In Fall 2020, KI will work with the Office of Global Engagement at Georgetown and the Vatican Dicastery to facilitate conversations on work and workers during and after COVID-19.
KI is long time sponsor and supporter of the Ignatian Solidarity Network and frequently promotes KI programming, including the Just Employment Policy, at the annual Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice, a gathering of students, teachers, volunteers, and others associated with Jesuit schools and organizations.
