Over its 17-year history, the Center for Working-Class Studies at Youngstown State University developed a new interdisciplinary academic field that modeled strategies for analyzing working-class experience, making working-class people and their stories visible, teaching about class and culture, and connecting academics who study class with working-class organizations and communities. The Center’s former co-directors, new Georgetown English professor Sherry Linkon and retired Labor Studies Professor John Russo, will tell the story of the Center and highlight lessons for organizing from their experience.
