Kalmanovitz Initiative Summer Organizing Internship

The KI Summer Organizing Internship provides an opportunity for Georgetown students to observe the impact of community and labor organizing, support and contribute to ongoing worker justice campaigns and projects, and develop their own organizing skills. Through firsthand involvement in local campaigns, students will develop their own view of the challenges facing workers in the modern economy and the role of worker justice in a larger social justice context. This is a paid internship and it lasts 8 weeks from the beginning of June to the end of July.

AFL-CIO Union Summer

Union Summer is a nine-week educational internship in which participants are introduced to the labor movement through union organizing campaigns. The Union Summer internship will run June 15 through August 14, 2015 and begins with an intensive weeklong orientation and training in Washington, DC. After the orientation, interns will work in teams on union organizing campaigns across the country. Interns will play an important role in helping build support for workers trying to gain a voice at work and in their communities.

AFL-CIO Strategic Corporate Research Summer School at Cornell University

The AFL-CIO and Cornell University are sponsoring a Strategic Corporate Research Summer School on June 14-19, 2014 in Ithaca, New York. The course is designed for undergrads, grad students, and others who are interested in working as union researchers and campaigners. The application deadline is May 1. Scholarships are available based on need if taking the course for credit.

AFSCME/TMCF/Harvard Union Scholars Program

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in partnership with Harvard University and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to offer the opportunity to college sophomores and juniors to work on the front lines of a union organizing campaign. You will talk to workers about gaining a voice on the job, fair wages and benefits for themselves and their families. You will get an opportunity to do the day-to-day work of outreach to workers by phone and on home visits, campaign research and material development. But the best part is that you will have a chance to make a difference in the lives of people.

Interfaith Worker Justice Summer Internship

Interfaith Worker Justice is a network of people of faith that calls upon our religious values in order to educate, organize, and mobilize the religious community in the United States on issues and campaigns that will improve wages, benefits and conditions for workers, and give voice to workers, especially low-wage workers. We are seeking students for our summer internship program who will provide general support to our workers’ rights campaigns, helping mobilize religious leaders and faith-based activists for timely actions to help janitors, hotel workers, farm workers, and security guards.

UCLA Labor Center Student Leadership Academy

The Student Leadership Academy (SLA), includes a two-day leadership development training, followed by an eight-week, full-time, paid internship program. The goal of the program is to give emerging student leaders and activists in-depth experience with careers in the labor movement.

The Dream Summer program has provided 418 internship opportunities to immigrant youth and allies throughout the nation. Dream Summer participants have engaged in social justice work and movement building by addressing the intersections of immigrant rights issues with queer and transgender communities, the Asian Pacific Islander community, mass incarceration and deportations perpetuated by the criminalization of people of color, and health care access for all.

UC Berkeley Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society Summer Internships

The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, community stakeholders, policymakers, and communicators to identify and challenge the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society in order to create transformative change. The Haas Institute serves as a vibrant network of researchers and partners advancing research and policy related to marginalized communities, touching all who benefit from a truly diverse, fair, and inclusive society. The Haas Institute General and Law Summer Fellowships are fourteen week part-time paid internships (pay rate based on educational degree or year in school) running from May 20 to August 21.

MacArthur Foundation U.S. Program Summer Internship

The MacArthur Foundation’s U.S. Program is seeking an intern for the summer. The position is paid and runs from June 15 to August 21. A summer intern in the Policy Research program area of U.S. Programs would assist staff with researching income inequality, tax and budget policy, the future of work; and related topics; reading grantee reports and drafting syntheses of findings and outcomes from the grantees in the Power of Measuring Social Benefits (PMSB) initiative and the How Housing Matters to Families and Communities (HHM) research initiative; assisting with U.S. Immigration Policy initiative, including research and related projects; assisting with the planning of meetings of experts and grantees on various topics; attending public grantee events and meetings as appropriate; and assisting with website monitoring and updates.

Economic Policy Institute Summer Internships

The Economic Policy Institute is seeking interns for summer 2015. The interns will work with EPI’s vice president to research the impact of right-to-work laws on quality of life; help research and prepare comments on the U.S. Department of Labor’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking concerning overtime exemptions for employers of salaried workers; and do projects as requested in support of EPI’s Raising America’s Pay initiative.
